Ingredients
- 1 cup all purpose flour
- 3/4 cup granulated sugar
- 1/4 cup plus 2 Tbsp unsweetened baking cocoa divided
- 2 tsp baking powder
- 1/4 tsp salt
- 1/2 cup whole milk
- 2 Tbsp vegetable oil
- 1 tsp pure vanilla extract
- 1 cup pecans or walnuts chopped (optional)
- 1 cup brown sugar
- 1-3/4 cups hot water
- Ice cream

Instructions
- Preheat oven to 350 degrees.
- In an ungreased 9x9-inch baking dish, add flour, sugar, 2 tablespoons cocoa, baking powder, and salt; mix well with fork.
- Stir in milk, vegetable oil, and vanilla; mix until smooth.
- Add nuts, if desired. Spread batter evenly.
- Sprinkle top of cake batter with brown sugar and remaining 1/4 cup cocoa.
- Pour hot water over top (do not mix) and bake on middle rack until top layer has a dry brownie-like crust (approx. 40 minutes).
- Remove and spoon warm cake sauce over ice cream. Enjoy!
