Cake: Mix cake ingredients together (except nuts) and pour into a greased 9x13-inch cake pan.
Topping: Mix together sugar, brown sugar, and cocoa. Sprinkle nuts over top of cake mixture.
Syrup: Preheat oven to 350 degrees.
Pour boiling water and vanilla over cake mixture.
Sprinkle pinch of salt over everything. Bake for approx. 35–40 minutes.
The cake will rise to the top and the boiling water will combine with the sugar/cocoa mix to make a rich syrup underneath. Cut into squares and place them upside down (gooey side up) on dessert plates.Serve warm with ice cream or whipped cream. Enjoy!
