- 1 tsp baking soda
- 1 cup chopped dates
- 1 cup hot water
- 1 cup sugar
- 1 Tbsp butter
- 1 egg beaten
- 1 cup flour
- 1/2 tsp salt
- 1 tsp vanilla
- 1 cup chopped nuts

Instructions
- Sprinkle baking soda over dates. Pour hot water over dates and let stand until cool. Cream sugar and butter. Stir in dates. Add beaten egg, flour, salt, vanilla, and chopped nuts; mix well. Pour into a 9-inch cake pan. Bake for 35 minutes at 350 degrees.
