Necedah National Wildlife Refuge Hosts Refuge Week in September
This year, Necedah will be celebrating National Wildlife Refuge Week in September rather than the traditional time during the second week of October. There are expanded offerings this year, both off and on the refuge. Events are free and open to the public.
Saturday, Sept. 26, 9 a.m.-3 p.m., Family Day – In the Water, On the Land, and In the Sky!
10:30-11:30 a.m. & 1-2 p.m. Live wild animal fun with Kathy KasaKaitas of the Coulee Humane Society. Please call to reserve your spot for one of the presentations. Limited to 60 people per presentation. 608-565-2551
Throughout the day:
- Cristina Dahl – from the Midwest Fisheries Center will host a touch tank of aquatic critters and two live sturgeon to observe and hold, taxidermy fish for species ID, mussel shells and mussel ID bingo.
- Larry Schmidt – learn to tie flies and try out the ones you make with him that day.
- Junior Ranger Phoenix Von Ruden – Interactive display – All about Bats
- Donna Richards 9:00 a.m. & Emily Ritter 12:30 p.m. – Bird hikes, kids’ fishing games & crafts, including casting, types of equipment, fish-printing on bandanas, and more.
- Pizza Sales – breakfast and lunch pizza slices available for purchase while supplies last. This is thanks to the generosity and support of Necedah’s Kwik Trip.
