With Halloween, and all things spooky, right on the heels of refuge week, we thought it would be fun for people of all ages to learn more about creatures of the night.
Come with curiosity, gather new information from our specialists, and come away with a sense of awe regarding wolves, bats, and owls. Even some spiders are more active at night so we’re offering a chance to learn about them, too.
Weather permitting, we’ll have an outdoor “Walkway of Wonder” where children can create a nocturnal animal-related craft, and talk one-on-one with an expert while checking out owl pellets, bat and wolf skins, spiders, and more. There will be nature-related treats at some of the stations, too. We’ll provide the bag to gather the goodies and projects in.
Inside the refuge visitor center, there will be presentations by experts related to owls, bats, and wolves. Each presentation is listed in the schedule above and will last around 45 minutes. There will be time for Q&A.
The fireplace room will be filled with beautiful quilted wildlife images all of October. On the 19th, there will also be nature-inspired mixed-media art for sale by the artists in that room.
Just around the corner, our yearly photograph entries will be on display. You get to be the judge! Vote your your favorite in each category and an overall fav.
There’s a chance to win a door prize, bid on a silent auction item or two, and purchase some delicious fall baked goods from the Friends Bake Sale. Donations of baked goods are welcome.
Lunch will be available for purchase, so plan to spend the day exploring the grounds and celebrating National Wildlife Refuge Week with us!!! www.fws.gov/refuge/necedah 608-565-2551.
