Herb Fest is a free, annual event that we have held for over 20 years. We hold it on the third Saturday in June every year. The day is our way to share ideas about herbs with our customers. We have talks about ways to use herbs, cook with herbs, and plant care for herbs given by both our HGV Crew and local community members. We have samples and demonstrations for all our customers to enjoy as well as a sale on all our herb plants.
This year we are featuring guest speaker Jane Hawley Stevens from Four Elements Organic Herbals. She has been featured on Larry Mueller’s Garden Talk on Wisconsin Public Radio. Her talk is entitled “Make Tea Blends with Garden Herbs for Increased Well Being.”
Jane Hawley Stevens began specializing in herbs in 1981 after earning her Horticulture degree from U.W. Madison. Opportunities in herb garden design evolved into using herbs in cooking and home remedies. In 1987 she began Four Elements Organic Herbals, continuing to grow herbs used for wellbeing. Grown and harvested on her 130-acre farm in the Baraboo Bluff of Wisconsin, products are handmade by dedicated local women and sold throughout the country.
A pioneer in organic farming and the natural product industry, Jane has taken her love and reverence for nature to inspire others through her effective products and teaching at organic herb, garden, and professional events. Her desire is to connect people consciously to that which sustains them.
Her art and science of herbal wellness have expanded to create the Four Elements Herbals product line that sells across the country.
We will also be having talks by Brent & Sue Hanson on the herbs of the year and landscaping with herbs, a culinary demonstration by Nicolet College culinary arts program, and Mike Hassl dealing with permaculture. Nicolet College is a partner in this event. http://www.hansonsgardenvillage.com/herbfest.html
