Mix 2 Tbls melted butter with 2 Tbls flour and 1 cup sugar. Set aside.
Beat ½ cup sugar with 1 Tbls butter, then beat in 1 egg.
Add alternately (milk/flour/milk) to sugar mixture: 1 cup milk and 2 cups flour that has been sifted together with 2 tsp baking powder and ¼ tsp salt. Mix well.
Put batter in 13 x 9 inch, greased and floured pan.
Peel, core and thinly slice 3-4 apples and arrange over the batter in one layer.
Sprinkle butter/flour/sugar streusel over the top of the fruit.
Sprinkle all with cinnamon and/or nutmeg to taste.
Bake at 350 degrees about 25-30 minutes (test with toothpick in an area without fruit on top).
You can add 1 tsp vanilla or ½ tsp almond or orange flavoring to the batter.
